Nelson’s Story

****Please note**** this post contains graphic and upsetting images.

Please meet Nelson.
In January of this year, We received a call from a a member of the public living in Gosport. Nelson has been living in their garden for the past couple of months and has been fed. Last week they noticed his injury and got him to Heathside Vets straight away.

Calls to a national animal charity to help remain unanswered, so we were asked if we could help. How could we not?

It’s believed that Nelson may have been hit by a car and his leg caught in barbed wire. The leg now can’t be saved and we had to make the unfortunate decision to amputate the very next day. He was also set of X-rays while under anaesthetic, for suspected pelvic injuries. Which in total came to a scary £1500.

The very next day Nelson was taken straight into surgery to have his leg amputated. We want to send a huge thanks to Becky, Ellie and Candice from the Heathside Veterinary Surgery for the extraordinary care they took of Nelson during this time.

After coming around from the aesthetic, and a few initial wobbles, Nelson was back up in action and was purring away from all the loving attention from the nurses!

After spending a little bit of time getting used to walking on just three legs, he was then discharged and passed on to our fantastic foster carer Vicki Doggett to take care of him. Nelson immediately formed a really close bond with Ollie, son of Vicki, his foster mum.

Not long after the outpour of love for Nelson’s story on Facebook, Nelson was quickly swept up by his new adopted mum, and he is living happily safe and sound with plenty of cuddles ❤️
